Life with Freya is an incredible, beautiful, amazingly exhausting experience. Discharging her from the hospital outpatients yesterday was almost surreal and we had to take a photo to commemorate the occasion.
Shortly after this picture was taken, the doctor undressed Freya for an examination and I can promise you, she was no longer peacefully asleep. In fact, the screams were so out of this world that the paediatrician commented that people would think we were torturing her – because having your singlet taken off is the absolute worst thing ever. Like totally.
JJ has been incredible with his little sister, though he is still too nervous to actually pick her up himself. She has just started really smiling, and nothing excites her as much as her Papa’s octopus dance, except for maybe her big brother.
Being the mum of two littles (well, one very little and one not so very little) is exhilarating and in these early days, downright exhausting. JJ has been waking in the night more than usual lately, which I put down to Freya’s middle-of-the-night feeds and changes. Our little house is little and everyone hears everything that happens, regardless of which room they’re in. Between the two kids and David’s early morning starts for work, I don’t remember when I last had more than 1-2 hours of uninterrupted sleep.
But it’s so worth it.
I’m just so utterly in love with these small people.
